The other day I was doing some research on discovering
which raw foods have the highest alkaline mineral content.
The major alkaline minerals are calcium, magnesium, sodium
and potassium. Any raw foods that are high in those
minerals will be alkaline forming.

As you may or may not know, it's very important to keep
your body properly mineralized and at the same time
functioning at the proper blood pH level of about 7.4.

Eating a cooked food diet will make you more acidic. Also
eating too much fat in the diet will make you more acidic,
because fat interferes with the body's ability to deliver
oxygen to the cells. Also nuts and seeds tend to be higher
in the acid forming minerals of chlorine, phosphorous and
sulfur. A high protein diet will also make you more acidic.

Keep in mind that it's also possible to be too alkaline.
The key here is the proper balance.

** A Common Mistake Many Raw Foodists Make **

A mistake I've noticed many raw foodists make is in not
eating enough mineral rich leafy green vegetables. This is
vital to your success. When you consume a high quantity of
mineral rich foods, you'll notice that your cravings for
cooked foods will go down dramatically.

We must eat lots of fruit to fuel ourselves, but fruit
alone is not enough for us to thrive in the long term. We
also need a food that is like a supplement, it's not high
in calories but it is high in nutrients. Dark, leafy green
vegetables are high in minerals, vitamins, fiber etc.

Finding a way to enjoy eating leafy greens and even more
important, finding a way to properly absorb the nutrients
from these foods is vitally important.

Victoria Boutenko and her raw family started seeing their
health deteriorate after many years of being raw. It turns
out they didn't really like eating greens. After extensive
research she eventually realized that the lacks of greens
in their diet was why their health was less than optimal.

** Learn All About Popeye's Super Food **

The first food I analyzed for its alkaline mineral content
was celery. Then I analyzed spinach and found it was much
higher than celery in alkaline minerals.

In fact, spinach was high not just in minerals but in
virtually every major beneficial nutrient as well. Maybe
that is why Popeye was so strong when he ate his spinach.

Let me give you a quick rundown of the alkaline minerals
in 25-calorie servings of celery, spinach, kale, romaine
lettuce and banana.

Celery

Calcium: 62.0 mg
Magnesium 17.0 mg
Potassium 403 mg
Sodium 124.0 mg

Spinach

Calcium: 109 mg
Magnesium 87.0 mg
Potassium 614 mg
Sodium 87.0 mg

Kale

Calcium: 68.0 mg
Magnesium 17.0 mg
Potassium 224 mg
Sodium 22.0 mg

Romaine Lettuce

Calcium 48.0 mg
Magnesium 20.0 mg
Potassium 358.0 mg
Sodium 12.0 mg

Banana

Calcium: 1.0 mg
Magnesium 8.0 mg
Potassium 100 mg
Sodium 0.0 mg


As you can see, all of these green vegetables are alkaline
forming foods, but spinach is the overall winner. Even
celery is higher in alkaline minerals than kale is. That
was a surprise to me.

Spinach also has a better than perfect amino acid score of
119. Thirty percent of the calories from spinach come from
protein.

It's high in dietary fiber and its sodium is of course in
the organic form, which our bodies utilize naturally. It's
the inorganic form of sodium which is toxic to us and every
cell in the body.

** Sea Salt Is Not A Health Food, No Matter What You've
Read About It **

Sea salt or rock salt is not a health food no matter how
many unabsorbable trace minerals it has. If you drink a
glass of seawater you are going to get severely dehydrated,
drink enough of it and you'll die.

Why would consuming the salt, minus the water make it any
healthier for you? This is just another marketing gimmick
to get you to buy something which actually damages your
health.

Spinach is also very high in these vitamins: A, C, E, K,
B6, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin and folate. Spinach is
quite high in these other minerals as well: iron, zinc,
copper and manganese.

What many people don't realize is that per calorie,
spinach has over six times more potassium than bananas do.
In fact, most of the green vegetables I tested had a higher
potassium level per calories than bananas.

This is not to say you shouldn't eat bananas, it's just to
point out that we've been taught to think of bananas as the
highest source of potassium when they really aren't. In
fact, there are a number of other fruits that are much
higher in potassium than bananas.

** No Need To Worry About The Oxalic Acid In Raw Spinach **

Some people are concerned that they'll leach calcium by
eating spinach. It turns out this is quite unlikely to be a
problem for most people.

Here's a quote from Dr. Gabriel Cousens book "Conscious
Eating," on this very point.

"In one extensive study on children put on a high-spinach
diet and other high-oxalate foods, no evidence of any
alteration of calcium, vitamin D, or phosphorous metabolism
was found. It is possible, however, if a person has a low
calcium intake or poor calcium metabolism, that a high-
oxalate diet could cause a calcium deficiency."

Another factor is whether the spinach is cooked or raw. In
the raw form it's believed the oxalic acid will not bind
with the calcium. In other words, eat as much spinach as
you want as long as it's raw.

Did you know that many other raw foods naturally contain
oxalic acid? Foods like sesame seeds, nuts, citrus fruit,
tomatoes, asparagus, beets, Swiss chard, dandelion greens
and cranberries. So if you haven't been worrying about the
oxalic acid content in these foods, I don't think you need
to worry about it by increasing your consumption of spinach.

** How To Add More Spinach To Your Diet And Enjoy It **

I've been adding more spinach to my diet by putting it in
my smoothies. I've found that it doesn't change the taste
very much at all. And by blending the spinach in my
Vitamix, I make the nutrients from the spinach more
absorbable.

Most people don't take the time they need to chew
properly. Even if you are eating big salads, you are likely
not absorbing the nutrients from the vegetables well
enough, unless you've chewed every mouthful down to its
liquid form.

Banana, Blueberry and Spinach Smoothie:

3 ounces water. Add more or less depending on how thick or
thin you want your smoothie to be.

3 or more bananas

4 ounces of fresh or frozen blueberries

3 or more ounces of raw spinach

This makes for a delicious smoothie and at the same time
you are making sure to get extra mineral and nutrient rich
food into your body.

A Safe Alternative To Colonics & Cleanses

There is a totally safe, natural and inexpensive alternative to doing colonics and using intestinal cleansing products. I explain further below in my response.

I received the question below via email from one of my subscribers and thought I'd share my answer with you. I answer a question about too much fruit consumption and about the need for doing colonics.

This is a very important email for you to read. It could actually save your life and keep you from serious health problems.

I'll respond in the body of her email. You'll see my commentary preceded by * Roger H: and ending with +++++++. Then I'll continue on after getting into more detail her second question.

Dear Roger,

I am grateful for your emails; they are all extremely helpful. I feel remarkably better having cut back on raw fats. I think they were accounting for over 25% of my caloric intake. I relied on them in large part because I was restricting my intake of fruits. Having put on unwanted excess weight, I was trying to keep carbohydrates to a minimum and thought I should limit/eliminate fruit.

* Roger H: Thank you for your nice comments. Firstly I'd like to say that I am giving generic advice. I don't know you or your health condition personally. Therefore what I say may not exactly apply to your individual situation. However, I will give you generic advice.

Unfortunately, you've been deceived by unsound nutritional advice. This is another example of extreme misinformation from all the so-called raw food and nutrition books out there.

I used to erroneously believe the same thing because of all the false nutrition propaganda I was reading. There is a lot of bad science and nutrition advice in the world today. People, (even extremely smart people) are easily fooled because it's quite a complex subject.

Eating fruit or even eating carbohydrates is not going to make you gain weight. It has more to do with the kind of carbohydrates you eat, what other foods you eat with those carbohydrates, how often you eat and also how much of these carbohydrates you eat.

If you eat 50% more calories than your body needs, then on any diet, you're likely going to gain weight, although less so on a raw food diet.

I only have about 5% body fat and in my cooked food days I was much higher, about 12%. Yet I eat more carbohydrates in my diet than I ever did while eating cooked food and I eat loads of fruit.

I have clients losing over 50 and 70 pounds eating the high fruit Optimal Raw Food Diet. I have a friend whose lost 100 pounds eating this way.

I began to eat fruit again. However, I have a tendency to binge, and in the last few days I feel like I may be overdoing it with the fruit. How much is too much? I am concerned about the sugar/carbohydrate intake and also feel quite bloated. Today we picked strawberries and I must have eaten 2 pounds of them. Also, should I be sticking to certain fruits and limiting others? I love all fruit so I have trouble in this regard.

* Roger H: Yes we can eat too much of anything, even fruit. But if you eat enough greens each day and eat within your caloric needs, then you won't be overdoing fruit. We can eat lots of fruit and I know many people who eat the majority of their calories coming from fruit and they are in the best health they've ever been in.

I'd stay away from dried fruit and not overdo fatty fruit, like avocados or even durians. But in most cases it's next to impossible to overeat fruit. This is simply not a concern in most situations.

Also when you eat mostly raw fruits and greens you are going to feel bloated compared to your cooked food days or high fat raw days. That is natural because there are less calories per bite. You have to eat much more weight and volume to get enough calories. So this bloating you are experiencing is likely normal unless you are doing poor food combining and or eating lots of dehydrated foods.

Finally, your email re: Dr. Douglas Graham's view of laxatives/colonics was helpful. Should I avoid colonics entirely? I am currently doing them about 4-5 times a week.

* Roger H: Short answer: Yes almost certainly if you value your health, you should stop doing colonics immediately. This is only generic advice. However, I don't really know any good or safe reasons to do colonics. I was once a believer in colonics, but that was before I had a better education. I'll elaborate more below.

Thanks for your great questions Gina. It has sparked a lot in me and I believe my responses will help you and many of my subscribers as this is very important information.


** More on the Dangers of Colonics:

Let me state here that I've done quite a bit of research on colonics and I have personally met some people that have had serious health problems as a result of doing them. I've read, I've talked to colon Hydrotherapists and even found out what surgeons actually see when they operate on colons. So I'm not lightly throwing out these ideas.

Someone I know had two hernia operations after getting regular colonics. These were using the so-called safe type of colonics.

We don't know for sure if the colonics caused his hernias but I do know he stopped doing colonics because of these hernias. Nevertheless, I'll share more examples of what has happened to people doing colonics.

Unfortunately for some, one of the side effects of colonics is death. Death is not a good side effect.

** The Natural Alternative To A Colonic:

The point is, we don't need colonics to clean out our intestines. Especially if you are eating an all raw food diet. The raw diet is super high in fiber, the fiber from fruits and vegetables act like an intestinal broom and in no time, you're colon will be as clean as it possibly can be.

Also the fibers from fruits and vegetables are much safer to eat than the sharp and harsh fibers that are found in the colon cleansing products and supplements you can buy in a health food store. These fibers can actually cut your intestinal wall.

** There Are No Colonics in Nature:

You don't see a bear going to a waterfall and sticking up his butt. In my opinion colonics are not only unnecessary in almost all situations, but they are also dangerous.

Did you know that at least 7 people have died as a direct result of doing colonics? It's probably a much higher number as the study I read that from was done a long time ago. Did you know that some people as a result of doing colonics can no longer go to the bathroom without doing a colonic?

Here's some information about this from Dr. Douglas Graham on CD number 10 of The Perfect Health Program, entitled "The Surprising Truth About Cleanses, Flushes, Colonics and Detoxification.

According to Dr. Graham in his over 25 years as a health practitioner, he has run into a woman who after just one colonic could never again have a bowel movement on her own, without the aid of a colonic. Imagine being forced to have daily colonics for the rest of your life, just so you can go to the bathroom?

He also met a man that had the same exact problem after just three colonics. And also another man that had it happen to him after six or so colonics.

All I can say is that this CD is amazing; in it you'll learn what is really going on when it comes to detoxification. All sorts of false concepts that most people believe are factually disputed and you'll save your health and a lot of money because you'll never need to do a colonic or to purchase any expensive and dangerous cleansing program ever again.

** Why Take A Chance With Your Health?

Why take such a chance. Even if only 1 in 1,000 or even 10,000 people ever gets injured by doing colonics, do you want to take that chance? It's an unnecessary risk if you eat a clean raw food diet.

The fruit acids and all the fibers in the diet will help your body to clean itself out naturally. I don't know any raw foodist eating an Optimal Raw Food Diet who needs a colonic.

** Everyone Has An Agenda: Determine It To Steer You Clear of Scams

Most people who are aware of alternative healing methods believe it's only the Dr.'s and drug companies that are financially biased in their recommendations.

But they aren't the only ones who are unduly influenced by money. People promoting colonics have a lot of money to gain for each customer they get. Some people do 4 or 5 colonics a week. That can be a fantastic source of income.

So just beware that people promoting, supplements, colonics and cleanses may have more than your best health in mind when they make their recommendations.

Keep in mind I feel all people have an agenda and are biased, even if money isn't the reason for the bias. Always keep that in mind, whether in communications from me or anyone else.

** What is My Bias?

Yes I am biased. In this case, of not recommending colonics, it's not likely to help me financially. In fact, it may hurt me to state the truth. You see many of my subscribers use colonics regularly, some of them I know are Colon Hydrotherapists.

I know because I've gotten many angry emails in the past. These people assume I am ignorant about colonics, but I feel they are the ones who need to learn more.

These people are not going to like what I have to say, unless they are interested in the truth and their health. Many of these people are likely to unsubscribe after reading just a little bit of my message.

My agenda is to help you unleash your infinite potential via any safe and natural means possible. An Optimal Raw Food Diet is just one of the ways to achieve that goal.

I also want to earn a living while doing so. So I show you the products and services I have tried and believe in the most. This is my agenda and keep it in mind with any recommendations I make.

Raw foodists are famous for doing colonics and if I were devious, I could convince you to do colonics and I could make a ton of profit. But the fact of the matter is that raw foodists are the people least in need of a colonic and colonics simply aren't safe.

Doing colonics is invasive and quite risky. Why do colonics when you can get perfectly cleaned out with nature's methods.

** The Colon Isn't Designed For Sending Things Back Up:

Nothing is supposed to go in the colon. The colon is designed to send waste material out, not back in.

If you want to do a cleansing correctly, you have to pick the right bodily entrance and direction. And the best way to clean out is by putting raw foods into your mouth or the beginning of the digestive tract.

The average American gets only 5 grams of fiber a day, and has a food transit time of four days. That means that the waste products from what they eat, stay in their bodies for four days. Most Americans are constipated, poisoned and acidic and this seems to make colonics such a great solution at first glance.

On average, I get 90 grams of fiber per day and I have 2 to 6 bowel movements per day. That's 18 times more fiber than people on the Standard American/Western Diet. The last day I tracked, May 30, 2006 I ate 96 grams of fiber.

With that much fiber naturally occurring in the Optimal Raw Food Diet, I have no need to take any psyllium seeds, or Ejuva or any other colon cleansing product. Not to mention that I have zero need for colonics.

If you are a raw foodist, eating an Optimal Raw Food Diet, there simply is no need for colonics or colon cleanses.

Beware that eating a lot of dehydrated crackers and foods isn't optimal for keeping your colon clean. But then again, those foods are not part of a natural diet and certainly not part of the Optimal Raw Food Diet.

Once you eat this way, stop eating dairy and grains and use proper food combining and you'll have a crystal clear colon. Some people might need to water fast for a few days before they go all raw, but they certainly shouldn't risk the dangers of colonic irrigation.

Imagination Science Manifestation Principles

"How To Get What You Really Want: RIGHT NOW"

How are you doing today? Are you having fun? Is every day a great adventure or are you struggling with life?

* Are you experiencing more Joy or more Fear?

* Is your consciousness Expanding or Contracting?

* Do you have an awareness of God (Good) or No-God and No Good?

* Are you Fit or Fat?

* Are you Raw or Cooked?

* Are you Outflowing or Inflowing?

The other day during my daily spiritual exercise, I had some powerful insights that I had to write down. I want to share these insights with you and hope that they can help you in some way.

These concepts are not necessarily original thoughts and many are derived from memories of my past readings. But this is how those insights came out in my inspired writing (plus some editing for your eyes.)

Please realize I have been studying what I call the "Reality of Imagination" for about 19 years now. I've been consciously observing the process of creation in my life and of that of my close friends.

I've been trying to unlock the secrets to creating my ideal life and help my readers do the same. These thoughts are the outcome of this quest.

My insights may or may not resonate with you because I'm not going to include much in the way of a description or why they work.

I'm just going to list the principles. But I will say one thing to start with. This is a controversial subject in the metaphysical world.

** Visualization versus Action: Which is more important?

In the study of the self-help, spiritual and metaphysical literature I get this constant question and battle raging in my mind. I think it might be an issue that pops up in your head as well.

What is more important, visualization or taking action? Or maybe all you have to do is visualize and you'll get what you want. Many people ardently believe the last point, but I believe some clarification needs to be made on this.

Firstly, we all have to realize that even visualizing is taking action. You have to focus your mind in order to visualize. It requires at least some effort and action, even if only done with your mind.

I think the rest of my point will be explained in my notes below.

"If you focus on your outer world reality, you continually recreate what you see and nothing changes. Instead, you need to focus on what you want to happen in your life, not what you currently see."

* By focusing on "what you want" you naturally change your -actions- as well.

* Thought controls action.

* Thought controls emotion.

* Thoughts attract similar thoughts.

* The thought or image of the thing, is the real thing. (Inspired by Allen Says, "Money and Power")

* Any time you feel fear, anger, doubt or unhappiness you are contracting your energy flow and attracting the very things you don't want to happen into your life.

* Free Thinking: To focus on the goal and never focus on the obstacles.

* What you focus upon magnifies and attracts thoughts of a similar vibrational level.

* Always focus on what you want and never ever 'worry' about how you'll get it.

(This is what holds back 99% of people. If they can't logically figure out how to achieve a goal, they give it up. They apply logical and non-creation thinking. They look at what other people are doing and what the so-called real world is like and therefore stifle their awesome creative powers.)

* Your state of mind must be from 'having' what you want. Any thought of lack will (instantly removes your motivation to take ACTION) attract more lack in your life.

* Never allow any "emotional obstacles" in your thinking, think only of your desire and not of the roadblocks. (Note: you must deal with obstacles all the time, but always focus on the resolution of the obstacle and not on the problems it is causing you. In other words, "don't feel down or upset." This will dramatically increase the speed at which you resolve these obstacles.)

* Visualizing your goal will naturally attract you to take the right actions, think the right thoughts, read the right books and meet the people you need to achieve your goal.

* Visualization or thought creates reality on the higher planes of consciousness.

* Action is the Physical Plane equivalent of imagination or thought.

* We exist in the all the planes of consciousness simultaneously.

* What you want to do every day is to take "Inspired Action" steps towards your goals.

* Never force yourself, take Inspired Action instead. (Concept by Allen Says)

* Start a Miracles Journal. Keep track of all the magical things that happen in your life so you can look back on them in the future and realize that magic really does happen.

* Thinking is frictionless action.

* Turn yourself into a special magnet for whatever you desire. Visualize yourself as this specialized magnet that automatically attracts exactly what you desire to come to you.

* Feel like a kid just about to get his birthday or holiday presents. Feel like this as much as possible and you'll start attracting into your life the very things you desire in the fastest way possible.

* The ultimate goal in life is happiness. Every material thing you can get basically serves the purpose of making you FEEL happy. So why not 'be happy' first, since that is the ultimate goal.

* You can have happiness in every moment of your life if you just remember to focus on what you want and not let anything contract your energy.

* Even if you don't have all that you want (and you never will by the way) by just focusing on it (mentally having it) will instantly make you happy.

* Think from satisfaction. (Neville Goddard "Awakened Imagination")

* A daily spiritual exercise is like a multi-vitamin for the Soul. (John Harricharan "The Power Pause.")

* We can all be Happiness Billionaires starting from this very moment.

* To be happy - Think from your goal, not of your goal.

* Claim your desire as yours, in your imagination.

* Change your "magnetic point of attraction" (your habitual thoughts)and you change your future results. (concept from Dr. Robert Anthony, "Beyond Positive Thinking")

* We have a constant pattern of thoughts. If you consistently change the majority of those thoughts your outer world results will eventually match those new thoughts.

* The new thoughts however, "instantly change how you feel" and instantly change your inner world reality. People will be able to feel your new energy immediately. Even if they aren't consciously aware of it.

I hope you found these thoughts useful. I believe I can boil all that down to a simple eleven word formula.

The other day I went on the most exciting and dangerous adventure of my life. I did it with my youthful 66-year-old father, who is actually a granddad these days.

I'm on vacation now, visiting my dad in Oregon. On my second day with him we went to the northernmost redwood forest in California. That was simply breathtaking. Later that day we went to this beach and hiked 3 miles in a constant 40 to 50 mile per hour wind. I was so cold. Thankfully, the cold wind relented and warmed on the way back.

This was not an easy hike. We climbed some cliffs and had to walk over very unsteady ground including rocks and huge forests of driftwood. I know many adults who would never have even ventured the idea of doing the hike we did because there was risk of injury.

They would have thought it too difficult and dangerous. Many older adults simply wouldn't be physically capable of going on this adventure.

But what we did the next day was ten times harder. I must say that I'm truly amazed at my father's physical and mental capabilities.

Physically it seems he's capable of doing anything he could do when he was 30 years old. Mentally he's just as sharp as ever and still working as a consulting engineer.

His body looks the same as when he was 30, except he has a few more wrinkles and grey hairs. My father is an example of how people should be. He takes care of his health and therefore, he's not plagued by all the old age diseases that other people experience.

** Physically he acts more like a 30 year old than a typical 66 year old.

All his life he's eaten a lot of fruits and vegetables. I remember his everyday lunch at work would consist of bananas and green delicious apples. I never saw him pack anything else.

These days he eats very simply and exercises every day. He's not a 100% raw foodist. However, that might soon change. Since I am visiting he decided to try eating mostly raw. So far he's been eating about 95% raw with me and not having much of a problem or transition at all.

Later on I'll discuss one problem he had and that is typical of new raw foodists. It made his mountain climbing adventure much more difficult.

Below is a letter I sent to some friends describing our exciting and yet dangerous climbing experience.

I think you'll find it interesting and I only hope that you can do the same or better when you are 66 years of age. If you take care of yourself, there's no reason, besides fear, that you couldn't do this as well. You need strength, flexibility, great balance and courage to attempt something like this.

What I haven't told you is that he's done this climb by himself and climbed several other mountains in the area by himself. Personally, I think that's too risky, but it doesn't bother him at all. I'll include links to pictures of the area we climbed below.

** Our Mountain Climbing Story **

What an adventure I had today in Oregon with my father. I wasn't nearly as tired today. Got up to 85% of my strength back. (Hadn't slept enough, jet lag, higher altitude and I wasn't eating enough calories.) I'm catching up slowly.

We went mountain climbing. It was an incredible ordeal. I was thirsty as soon as we started climbing. I ate some dulse(which is a quite salty seaweed) before we started and we didn't bring enough water. So I was very thirsty right from the beginning.

I don't think my father understood how thirsty I was. I thought we would be down within a couple of hours and even then I didn't want to go because I knew I'd only get even more thirsty as we climbed in this 95 degree day. I had no idea of what was in store for me.

Later on my father got really thirsty as well. We started trying to chew on leaves to extract water from them, but they just made us more thirsty because of their bitter taste. There was no water anywhere on our path.

We went through every kind of terrain. We even carried bear repellant. We actually climbed two peaks. The first adventure took about an hour and the second one took a few minutes under four hours.

The climbing was physically and mentally challenging. I'd estimate only 1% of 66 year old Americans would be capable of this climb. It was a tremendous leg and calf workout. Our knees were quite sore the next day and I had blisters on both of my big toes. We were often on unstable ground, hanging on to tree branches while climbing some areas up to a 90-degree grade, like a sheer cliff.

We had to go through dense brush, duck down and all the while constantly going up very steep areas with unstable ground. My father says that this instability is great for keeping your legs strong and firm.

You never know which way your ankle will turn and you have to have good reflexes so you don't fall the wrong way and hurt yourself. This is similar to stability ball training. This kind of climbing is one of the secrets to his youthfulness.

He also feels young just because he's doing stuff most people would only attempt at a young age. The emotional challenge and the physical exertion keep him young.

In the end, the scenic views and sense of adventure and accomplishment were worth it. Especially at the end when we were saved from possibly deadly results.

For a while, I was getting a bit worried. We had no trail to follow and we were completely alone and lost, trying to go back down the steep grades of this mountain. I was constantly vigilant of losing my balance and tumbling down the mountain. I was often sliding and did fall a couple of times, but recovered quickly. My father fell at least once as well.

No one else was climbing the mountain. And we were both exhausted and thirsty and it was getting near sunset. We were also exhausted, on top of the fact that we had to get down and it was quite steep and difficult in many areas.

We often had to hang on to branches and jump to rocks. We frequently fell and slid on loose rocks. We also had to go across instead of down so we could find more passable terrain. We saw two large animal poops, maybe bear or elk. We also saw hoof prints later on and that was very high up.

I couldn't imagine how fit four legged animals that live on this mountain must be.

Near the end of coming down (I had no idea how much longer it would last. We went up for over two hour's total time.) We went up to 6,000 feet or so. We found a cool pond which turned into a stream.

That water was so cold and to us it was like "The Fountain Of Youth". It was probably melted snow. We even saw a snowy patch on another nearby mountain in an area that was protected from direct sunlight. (People ski at Mt. Hood, Oregon, all year round. And I saw the snow covered mountain from the plane. Snow was not at the lower part of Mt. Hood.)

Anyway that water was a gift from God. Just previous to that I was asking for divine intervention and it came within five minutes. I didn't expect water, but a way to get back to our truck.

I drank up the cool and I think clean water and so did my father. I still feel fine. We didn't see any pollution in this area at all.

After finding the ice-cold stream, I was totally relieved and refreshed. I felt better than when I first started the climb because finally I wasn't thirsty anymore. My legs and body were worn out but after drinking the water I had renewed energy levels.

Later on we came to the point where there was a mini waterfall. It sounded so peaceful and pristine; we both felt we were in heaven, even though we still hadn't found the road to get us back to the truck. At that point we were just enjoying our experience.

Here's a 30 second video clip I took with my cellphone camera of this little stream that saved us. Now that we took care of our extreme thirst we only had to make sure to get out of the forest before nightfall. It was very close to sunset and so we could have been stuck for a night in the woods.

That was what we were really afraid of because prior to the water, we would have had to spend the night in the woods without any source of water. So half our problems were solved by finding our little fountain of youth. I was never so happy to drink water.

** My father makes a typical raw food newbie mistake

My father was exhausted also because he only had four bananas and maybe 20 cherries for his breakfast over 7 hours previous. Whereas I had about 7 bananas, plus wild blackberries in a couple of green smoothies. I was really full at the time. I also had three more bananas to try and quench my thirst before we climbed again. They only helped a little bit in relieving my thirst. However, I consumed 2.5 times the calories that my father did and we are about the same height and weight.

Later he complained that four bananas were not enough and he remembered the last time he climbed this mountain he ate a bowl of cereal just before he climbed and that his energy levels were fine then.

I explained to him that he just didn't eat enough calories. It has nothing to do with needing complex carbohydrates. Fruits fill you up on much fewer calories because they are filled with water and fiber that is missing in cooked food.

I had loads of energy. On our first climb (before I was thirsty, I was running up the mountain in the easier areas to climb. I wanted to make sure I got a good workout. (Turns out that wasn't necessary.) So I had enough energy, he just didn't eat enough calories to sustain him for such a long and taxing climb.

This is a typical problem with people first eating a raw food diet. They almost always feel full on about half to 2/3rd of the calories they are used to eating. But they complain they are always hungry or don't have enough energy.

** Old Age Is Not A Disease **

My father's physical abilities at 66 years of age are awesome. I bet you only 1% of 66 year olds in the US can do what he did with me today.

I'm sick of hearing people complain they can't do things because of their age. They believe age somehow gives them all these diseases. It's not age but years and years of poor eating, health and fitness habits that cause their so-called, old age diseases.

Heck I had arthritis in my late twenties but now at 39 and on a raw food diet, I don't have arthritis anymore. Just another example that it has nothing to do with age.

** Are they from Mars?

About ten minutes after finding the stream and drinking from several places in the stream, we actually saw two people with two dogs and a camper. I think they thought we were from Mars.

They were camping there and probably thought they were the only ones around. They were very nice and told us where the road was and would have driven us back I believe if we asked.

But we stubbornly marched on. It turns out we overshot the truck by at least a mile. We went further down the mountain than where we had started.

We had to walk uphill on the rocky road for over a mile and by that point my father was like a zombie. He was so tired that he didn't have the energy to talk.

Lack of calories was the main reason why. He hit the wall and was conserving all of his strength to make it back to the truck. I was fairly energetic and talkative at this point considering our previous energy expenditures.

We eventually made it to the truck. Just before we got to the truck we ran into a couple sitting in a car and camping there. They also seemed shocked to see us walking there.

They asked where we were going and I said to our car. They said that only goes to the river, but my father turned right and went up this hill that only a 4-wheel drive can go up. That is when I finally remembered we had driven here to park before.

Then I said to them we actually have a truck. We finally made it.

I think they were concerned for our safety and wanted to make sure we would be ok and couldn't imagine we had driven up that steep and bumpy hill.

I must say, I saw so much beauty in our quest. It was just gorgeous and the pictures won't do it justice. When we were walking back, I saw a lake we had seen from way above while we were climbing. I took a picture of it from up there. I also took several pictures of it when I saw it up close. It was really beautiful to see.

Hopefully the rest of my vacation won't be as challenging as the last two days.
